George Aschenbach joined the Seabury Group in 2002 with responsibility for airline re-engineering. Mr. Aschenbach has more than 30 years of experience in the airline and global distribution system (GDS) industries, having held senior financial positions with Continental Airlines, US Airways and Northwest Airlines. He also served as vice president – treasury, strategy support and new ventures for Galileo International and as an independent consultant. He has extensive experience as an advisor to clients on merger and acquisition analysis, business valuation analysis, financing and other treasury-related matters.
Mr. Aschenbach has participated in several major airline restructurings, as well as several profitability enhancement programs for major global carriers, including revenue enhancement and cost reduction initiatives. Select experience includes co-managing the ongoing privatisation advisory process for Kuwait Airways, managing the out of court restructuring of Midwest Airlines and ultimate sale to Republic Airways and primary responsibility for distribution cost reduction elements, among others, of the out-of-court restructuring of South African Airways. In addition, he led a team responsible for the development of the infrastructure necessary for the commencement of scheduled air services by a U.S. domestic express carrier.
Prior to Seabury, Mr. Aschenbach was an independent advisor to corporate clients on matters including merger and acquisition analysis, business valuation analysis, business planning, strategic planning, financing and other treasury related matters. Specific project examples included analyzing new business opportunities and developing related business plans for Galileo International, including acting as lead negotiator for a variety of acquisitions, identifying acquisition targets, performing business valuation analysis, structuring deal terms and acting as lead negotiator for multiple acquisitions by eFunds Corporation and representing the non-United Airlines owners of Covia Partnership and Galileo Company regarding the combination of those two entities and the spinoff of two related businesses.
Mr. Aschenbach graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Economics from Boston University and received an M.B.A. in Finance from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
