Ocean Database

Seabury’s Ocean Database includes global ocean trade volumes categorized by containerized, bulk, and liquid trade. It provides the volumes in weight, value of the goods, and number of TEUs. The bottom-up approach to construct the database (e.g. stuffing factors and containerization ratios at detailed commodity level), and verification of the end results top-down, makes it more accurate and comprehensive than any other product in the market. Key to this success is the close cooperation with senior executives from the maritime industry.

The Ocean Database is:

Comprehensive – Historical ocean data is available from 2000 onwards for 200 countries specified per trade lane. All data is available for 2000 commodities, examples include: furniture, waste paper, laptops, bananas, iron ore, vehicles, and crude oil. Monthly data is available to identify seasonality patterns.

Reliable – Most reliable input data is used, which is directly obtained from customs and is processed by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals from the industry. Data is cross-checked against other sources and its accuracy is verified by our leading client base.

Up-to-date – Data is frequently updated and is made available in a short time frame due to automated procedures.

User-friendly – Analyzing data is made effortless with the use of Cognos business intelligence software.

The Ocean Database allows our clients to make better informed decisions and respond rapidly to the changing market environment. These include decisions on sales strategy: assess which commodities are rapidly increasing or declining; future fleet investments: signal shifts from bulk to containerized movements; and network optimization: determine fast growing countries or regions.
