China's air imports grow in September

AMSTERDAM, December 2nd, 2008 (WorldACD) - Seabury Cargo Advisory reported that after consecutive monthly double digit growth during the first seven months of 2008, China's air imports only grew by 0.9 percent in September, compared to the same month in the previous year.

Beijing area's imports still experienced significant growth in September: 6.2 percent, but imports into the Shanghai region declined by 5.0 percent.

The slowdown in air import growth in September was mainly caused by China's lower imports of semiconductors, electrical components, and generators.

Air import growth from China's three largest sourcing countries: Japan, Germany and the US was -8.1 percent, 2.9 percent and 5.0 percent respectively. The significant decline from Japan was largely caused by lower imports of integrated circuits and chips, China's largest air import commodity.
