Air imports into the US declined by 32.1 percent in November 2008

AMSTERDAM - January 20th, 2009 - Seabury Cargo Advisory reports U.S. air import growth, having exhibited a seven-year low of -23.4 percent in October 2008, surpassed this mark in November, with a decline of 32.1 percent compared to the same month in the previous year.

Commodities experiencing import losses of over 45 percent were: land vehicles & parts, wine, semi-manufactured metals, televisions, computers, hard disks and phone parts.

From China, the largest exporting country to the US, 35.2 percent less tonnage were moved by air to the US. Imports from Japan, France and Germany also suffered greatly with growth declines of 39.3, 35.3 and 33.9 percent respectively.

On a regional level in the US, the areas that were hardest hit in November Dallas, Los Angeles and Cleveland all experienced negative growth of around 39 percent.
