Chong Chan is an insurance and financial expert with 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has earned the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation, as well as the Fellow of the Life Management Institute designation. Prior to joining Seabury in 2004, Mr. Chan co-founded Answer Financial Inc, an on-line insurance brokerage company. For the last seven years, Mr. Chan and his partner raised over $195 million of equity capital from institutional investors, and built Answer into a national, full-service insurance agency that markets 14 lines of products to consumers using a multi-channel distribution platform. Prior to Answer, Mr. Chan was a partner of Shinnecock Group, LLC, and worked exclusively as advisor to Goldman Sachs and Kelso & Company with respect to insurance-related investments and acquisitions. Before that, he was Senior Vice President and Corporate Actuary of Aurora National Assurance Company and responsible for financial reporting and product development. During his tenure at Aurora, he helped create innovative insurance products, including Structured Settlement Annuity, Qualified Retirement Annuity, and Guaranteed Investment Contract. Mr. Chan was also the Appointed Actuary of Aurora, responsible for performing the required asset/liability matching analysis and signing of the Actuarial Memorandum filed with state authorities each year. Mr. Chan received his Master’s degree in Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Illinois, and his Bachelor’s degree, University Highest Honors, in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University. He is a licensed resident life and property-casualty insurance agent in California, and a non-resident agent in each of the other 49 states. |
