Clients use the databases for a variety of purposes: business development, market research, fleet & network planning, sales steering, and strategy development. The databases are outstanding in terms of comprehensiveness, reliability, ease-of-use, and timeliness. Available subscriptions are:

Trade – World air and ocean trade volumes are captured for over 200 countries from 1994 onwards. Data is available on a country to country level, with further breakdowns into customs districts for the largest freight consumption and production markets. Types of goods are provided at an unmatched level of detail for 2000 commodities.

Ocean – A Seabury product developed for the maritime industry containing ocean trade volumes from 2000 onwards. The volumes are categorized by containerized, bulk, and liquid movements. It displays the volumes in weight, value of the goods, and number of TEU.

Express – The express database adds another dimension to the long-established trade data in terms of type of express products, weight & value splits, and number of shipments. Moreover, accurate low value shipments calculations are included.

Capacity – The capacity database provides airline and aircraft specific data of worldwide scheduled cargo capacity per route from 2007 onwards. Measures are in metric tons and cubic meters with the possibility to distinguish aircraft type, model, and configuration.

Traffic – Global airport-to-airport cargo traffic volumes transported by more than 150 reporting airlines make up the Traffic Database. The actual flown volumes can be specified for the type of operation: freighter or belly.

Each database can be tailored to meet individual needs and to increase compatibility with existing in-house databases. In addition, Trade, Ocean and Express subscriptions can be extended with a 5-year forecasting module.

Trade Database

Seabury’s Trade Database captures the world’s air and ocean trade flows in terms of weight and value. This allows our clients in the logistics arena to make commercial decisions on network development, market sizing, trend analysis, industry segmentation, fleet purchase, product development, and market share. The Trade Database is:

Comprehensive – Historical air and ocean data is available from 1994 onwards for 200 countries per trade lane. Data is available for 2000 commodities, some examples are: laptops, mobile phones, asparagus, live lobster, and footwear. Monthly data is available to identify seasonality patterns.

Reliable – Most reliable input data is used; it is directly obtained from customs and is processed by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals from the industry. Data is cross-checked against other sources and its accuracy is verified by our leading client base.

Trade Database subscriptions can be extended with a 5-year forecasting module to support business planning, future market assessment, and network related decisions. Seabury’s Trade Forecast provides a separate forecast for air and ocean trade flows. It is available per year for all 200 countries and 2000 commodities, using more than 300 leading indicators. The Trade Forecast is updated twice a year to cater for changing macro-economic dynamics.

Ocean Database

Seabury’s Ocean Database includes global ocean trade volumes categorized by containerized, bulk, and liquid trade. It provides the volumes in weight, value of the goods, and number of TEUs. The bottom-up approach to construct the database (e.g. stuffing factors and containerization ratios at detailed commodity level), and verification of the end results top-down, makes it more accurate and comprehensive than any other product in the market. Key to this success is the close cooperation with senior executives from the maritime industry.

The Ocean Database is:

Comprehensive – Historical ocean data is available from 2000 onwards for 200 countries specified per trade lane. All data is available for 2000 commodities, examples include: furniture, waste paper, laptops, bananas, iron ore, vehicles, and crude oil. Monthly data is available to identify seasonality patterns.

Reliable – Most reliable input data is used, which is directly obtained from customs and is processed by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals from the industry. Data is cross-checked against other sources and its accuracy is verified by our leading client base.

Splits can be made into small shipments and large shipments. Data is available in weight, value, and number of shipments.

Reliable – Most reliable input data is used, which is directly obtained from customs offices and is processed by an experienced and dedicated team of trade and express experts. Data is cross-checked with other express traffic sources.

Capacity Database

capacity_1The Capacity Database provides carrier and aircraft specific data with an extensive coverage of worldwide scheduled cargo capacity. It has proven its use in decisions related to competitor assessment, network deployment, evaluation of quality and capacity. In combination with the Trade Database, the data contained in the Capacity Database supports decisions to deal with overcapacity or markets that are underserved.

The Capacity Database is:

Comprehensive – The majority of airlines’ scheduled capacity on a point-to-point airport level per carrier is covered. A distinction is made between passenger belly holds and freighters, with a possibility to drill down to aircraft type. Measures are provided in metric tons and cubic meters. Data is available as of 2007.

Reliable –Extensive volumetric and load capacity research is conducted to provide a unique global capacity overview using payload range curves and passenger load factors. Schedule data is directly obtained from airlines.

User-friendly – data is made effortless with the use of Cognos business intelligence software.

The Capacity Database is provided in partnership with Innovata; a global leader in travel related content management, content distribution, as well as travel planning solutions utilizing this content. Its schedule database contains over 99% of all flight schedules worldwide with over 900 airlines participating and updating it directly. Approximately 90% of the database is updated and refreshed each week.

Traffic Database

The Traffic Database is made up of global airport-to-airport cargo traffic volumes, reported by more than 150 member airlines. Next to the actual flown volumes it also specifies the type of operation: freighter or belly services. The Traffic Database can be used for decisions related to competitor assessment, network deployment, and freighter fleet analysis. In combination with the Trade Database, the Traffic Database supports decisions in market sizing and share analysis.

The Traffic Database is:

Comprehensive –Scheduled point-to-point flown traffic data is available for approximately 150 airlines from 1997 onwards. A separation between cargo flown on belly versus freighter aircraft can be made per carrier per flown leg.

Reliable – Cargo data of multiple airline associations is used for validation. Data is processed by a dedicated and experienced data development team with over 10 years of experience in data modeling.

Up-to-date – Data is directly delivered by airlines and is immediately processed by dedicated staff, resulting in short turnaround times.

User-friendly – Data is distributed via Cognos business intelligence software. Data can also be delivered in other file formats upon client request.

Subscriptions to the Traffic Database are available for IATA airlines on a quid pro quo basis; when providing their monthly airport-to-airport volumes, airlines will subsequently receive the volumes of all other participating airlines.
